EX-MOTHER IN LAW
by
Charles Hosier

i've seen things.

like your mother
eating fish with her fingers.
her eyes glazed hard
and focused on nothing.
her greasy fingers
tore dead fish chunks away
from dead fish skin.
she would press them
to her thin ugly lips.
her wasted
formless tongue would
flop out then
and pull the fish pieces
into the mouth hole.

it was like something murderous and indecent.

i could smell her breath
becoming worse.
i could hear her teeth chipping
and rotting in spit.
i could sense her unusual body
becoming fishy.

dead fish
in her
dead body.

when she was finished
molesting that fish
her eyes focused on me.

i don't see her much
anymore.

Charles Hosier is divorced and lives under Henry Singer's van. He can be found drinking filtered water in Southern New Jersey.
